In a tremendous show of early season fitness Friday, Yared Nuguse and Woody Kincaid both ran American indoor records on the Boston University track at the John Thomas Terrier Classic as the reputation for one of the fastest tracks in the world took another leap forward.

First, it was Nuguse, of On Athletics Club, running 7:28.24 to win a fast 3,000 meters and breaking Grant Fisher's American absolute record of 7:28.48 set last year outdoors. The indoor record was 7:30.16, held by Galen Rupp since 2013.

The time also boosted Nuguse to No. 11 on the all-time world list.

Behind him, Sam Atkin of Puma snapped the British record with his second-place time of 7:31.97.

And Drew Bosley of Northern Arizona broke Nuguse's collegiate record with 7:36.42 for fifth place.

Alex Phillip of John Carroll placed third in the second 3,000 section and 13th overall to set the NCAA Division 3 indoor record of 7:53.24, eclipsing the mark of 7:54.48 run last season by Aidan Ryan of Williams, also at Boston University.

In the event that followed, Kincaid, of Nike, ran 12:51.61 to beat Fisher's 2022 time 12:53.71.

Kincaid's performance is the second-fastest ever run indoors or out, trailing only Fisher's 12:46.96 last September in Brussels, Belgium.

Joe Klecker of On Athletics Club, second in 12:54.9, was the only runner close to Kincaid and his performance elevated him to No. 3 on the all-time U.S. indoor list.

Kincaid moved to No. 4 on the all-time world indoor list behind three legends of the sport: Kenenisa Bekele, Haile Gebresellassie and Daniel Komen. It was also the fastest run anywhere indoors in 19 years.
