Stafford Wins 1,000m In 2:33.75 For 12th-Fastest Performance In History By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Canadian Lucia Stafford opened her season with a bang Saturday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, running 2 minutes, 33.75 seconds to win the 1,000 meters. Her performance is a North American area record and she moved to No. 9 on the all-time indoor list. Saturday was filled with women's events on the track after Friday's schedule was primarily for the men. Olivia Baker of the Atlanta Track Club Elite won the women's 800 meters in 2:00.78, as Heather MacLean (2:01.33), Brenna Detra (2:01.65) and Dani Jones (2:01.68) all ran fast early season times. Baker jumped into the next event, the women's 400 meters, and won that, too, in 55.17. High school junior Mia Brahe-Pedersen made a cross-country trip from Lake Oswego, Ore. and won the women's 60-meter dash in a new personal-best 7.35 seconds. That broke the Oregon indoor record and moved her to US#4 this season. Brahe-Pedersen also competed in the 200 meters and finished second in 23.49 seconds, slightly slower than her best. Felicia Brown Edwards of Garden State Track Club won the 200 in 23.36. Krissy Gear of NAZ Elite won the women's mile in 4:29.67. In the women's 3,000 meters Regan Yee of Under Armour Run Dark Sky beat a strong field in 8:48.53. She lowered her personal best by more than nine seconds. Abby Nichols from HOKA NAZ Elite was right with her, finishing second in 8:48.58. |
